Accounting Manager

Location: Bedford, MA

Summary of Primary Responsibilities:

The Accounting Manager is primarily responsible for various aspects of the monthly financial close including close management, consolidations, and review of journal entries prepared by Staff and Senior Accountants. In addition, the Accounting Manager will work closely with the Finance Director to prepare various financial schedules for monthly and quarterly reporting purposes.  The Accounting Manager is also responsible for management reporting and preparing acquisition earn out calculations.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Prepares and manages quarterly close timelines
  • Responsible for preparing consolidation of financials
  • Assist as needed in the preparation of the quarterly consolidated cash flow
  • Interfaces with external accountants for quarterly reviews and annual audits including preparation of required schedules and analyses
  • Participates in the preparation for reporting on effectiveness of controls as required by Section 404 of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act
  • Responsible for preparing internal management reports, including the monthly Flash Report, Greensheets, and commercial reporting (revenue, commissions, and royalties)
  • Prepares earn out calculations for acquisitions and bank compliance statements
  • Special projects or other duties as assigned

Job Complexity:

Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Exercises judgment within generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques to obtain solutions.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Two staff accountants

Required Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance with at least 5+ years of financial & managerial accounting experience
  • Experience in accounting ERP software; SAP experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) required
  • Robust internal controls understanding and documentation of relevant financial processes and transactions
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft office suits and related tools

Desired Experience, Knowledge, and Skills:

  • Biotech/medical device and public company experience a plus, but not required; commercial and manufacturing experience preferred
  • Strong communication skills, ability to present financial information in a meaningful, understandable way both internally and externally
  • Ability to question norms and respectfully challenge others
  • Self-motivated and ability to work independently and collaboratively with strong organizational skills
  • Detail oriented, ability to accomplish multiple tasks within the agreed upon time frames through effective prioritization of duties and functions in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work in a time-sensitive environment
