INCERT–S

Anika Therapeutics’ first anti-adhesion product is INCERT^®–S, an anti-adhesion barrier gel for use in spinal surgeries such as discectomies with a laminectomy or laminotomy.   INCERT–S acts as a physical barrier to prevent adhesions from forming between the affected tissues. By inhibiting the fibrosis that can form during the healing process, post-operative pain resulting from tethered nerves can be minimized or avoided.

In addition, when patients must undergo a second spinal surgical procedure, the presence of scar along the spinal canal and nerve roots creates an exceptional challenge for the surgeon who must dissect the fibrous tissue away without disrupting the delicate neural structures underneath.  Not only is this a clinical complication, but the resulting increase in surgical duration can give rise to additional anesthesia-related problems, adding cost to the procedure.
